Trap 1 Saving Sonic

Owners: Saving Grace Syndicate

Breeder: Carla Hendy

Trainer: John Mullins, Yarmouth

The first of two John Mullins-trained littermates in the final - sister Saving Mullpark is next door - Saving Sonic qualified behind Affleck Bolt and Mullpark in the heats, having also recently contested the opening round of the Greyhound Derby at Nottingham. Joint-youngest in the decider along with his sister, both started out at home track Yarmouth - Sonic making his debut in A4 in December. He finished fourth in the BGBF Puppy Cup at Sheffield in April behind kennelmate Romeo Ruben. Last week’s contest was Sonic’s first six-bend race and he handled the extra metres well enough.

Trap 2 Saving Mullpark

Owners: Saving Grace Syndicate

Breeder: Carla Hendy

Trainer: John Mullins, Yarmouth

The second John Mullins-trained finalist, Saving Mullpark has the edge in the sibling rivalry stakes having finished in front of her brother in the heats. The youngster, who had a great battle with defending champion Afflect Bolt in the heats, will again look to get first run and is more experienced over six bends having contest the George Ing St Leger at Yarmouth (659m) and won over Romford’s 575m. Made her debut at Yarmouth in A5 at February for Mullins, whose wife Debbie reared the littermates, bred by Carla Hendy, from eight weeks at their Suffolk base.

Trap 3 Affleck Lady

Owners: Patrick Janssens and John Porter

Breeder: Cheryl Janssens

Trainer: Patrick Janssens, Central Park

The first of two more littermates in the final, Affleck Lady and Affleck Bolt represent the handler currently leading the Trainer of the Year standings - Patrick Janssens. Lady is more lightly-raced than Bolt and finished behind her brother in a warm-up race recently. However, the three-year-old heads into this £4,000 decider as the fastest qualifier after her 39.67sec success in the qualifiers last week. The dam line is strong, with the pair of Afflecks being half-brother and sister to Badabing, who was British Bred Greyhound of the Year for 2016 for John Mullins.

Trap 4 Affleck Bolt (m)

Owners: Patrick Janssens and John Porter

Breeder: Cheryl Janssens

Trainer: Patrick Janssens, Central Park

The reigning British Bred St Leger champion here at Central Park, Affleck Bolt also lines up as the Ballyregan Bob Memorial winner at Hove in December. Always up against the best six-bend talent, he reached the Yarmouth St Leger and Regency (Hove) semis recently as well as the semi-finals of the Golden Jacket at Crayford. First made his mark as a pup when third in Magical Bale’s Puppy Derby triumph at Towcester in November 2017. Boasts a cracking strike-rate over C&D and will be fancied by many to land back-to-back victories in this competition.

Trap 5 Swabys Teddy (m)

Owner: Roy Swaby

Breeder: John White

Trainer: David Mullins, Romford

The Romford raider brings top-grade 575m and 750m form to the table for this final. Winner of a 575m maiden at his home track in February, the two-year-old is from a litter bred by John White, who formed such a great a partnership with the late Mitch Millward - the brilliant Millward Teddy, Swabys Teddy’s sire, being their best dog together. Dam Millwards Katy was another of their best runners together. Lining up as the third Mullins-trained runner in the decider, the October 2016 whelp is trained by John’s brother, David. Stamina is not an issue for Swabys Teddy.

Trap 6 Shoot The Bolt (w)

Owners: The Dirty Dozen

Breeder: Paul Attwater

Trainer: June Harvey, Hove

A finalist in last year’s Produce Stakes at Swindon for his breeder Paul Attwater - his family are well known for greyhounds with the ‘Caloona’ prefix - Shoot The Bolt has proved a consistent open racer for June Harvey. Has been plying his trade at home track Hove recently, winning back-to-back A1s at the Sussex venue recently. Stepped back up in distance for this event, the sole seeded runner will look to dominate outside. A winner over 575m at Romford, he also notched a victory over C&D in a novice stayers contest here in May. He is out of a Westmead bitch.
